Some Dead Do Come Back is the story of Heinz Leisner’s action-packed life, from his birth in 1934 in Germany to his escape across the Iron Curtain into the West and a new life in Australia. Born in Breslau under the gathering clouds of war, Heinz is forced to grow up quickly, national defeat bringing with it upheaval and tragedy, and an end to his world as he knows it for ever. Nevertheless, Heinz’s desire for adventure and his determination not to allow his future to be suffocated by a vanquished East Germany ensure that life will never be routine. After trying a variety of jobs, some more successful than others, Heinz risks his life in a brave dash across the border into West Germany. Relieved, but still wanting more, he makes the final break with his past in December 1953 when he embarks on a fresh start in Australia. There, the freedom he has always craved awaits him, together with a chance to find wealth, love and happiness. Some Dead Do Come Back is an absorbing tale of one man’s refusal to settle for the ordinary.
